OK, I got all three rolls today, P,D and S of the Perrys Victory ATB. In and of itself, its an OK design, nothing spectacular in my opinion. What's the issue you ask? The WIDE OPEN FIELDS on this coin. I am sending the P&D set back. The fields on the Denver coins are all scratched, many to the point of reducing the coins to MS 62 at best. I don't think there was a single one that could have hoped to go beyond MS66, and that is being kind. The Philadelphia coins were ALL stained. Not milk spots, but brownish splatters. I tried dipping one of the worst just to see if it would come off. Nope. No way could I ever send out any of those coins to a customer. The San Fran coins were better but not great. One roll of these remains intact, the other I open for sale. Half were very nice coins with few if any minor scratches. The rest had scratches, but not horrid. Low end in that roll is MS64. So yeah, NOT my favorite of the ATB coins.

I'm smelling forthcoming low pop MS68 and higher on this issue.

I had some issues when I received my P & D set of Perry's Victory. One roll seemed fine and the other had a tarnished wrapper looking as if it were stuck in a machine when it printed. The coins seemed normal but just one small miniscule blotch on one of the end coins annoyed me. Starting to wonder if anyone else wasn't completely satisfied.

kookoo, the only way any of these is making 68 or better is going to be from mint sets.

Quote: The WIDE OPEN FIELDS on this coin Im not a fan of designs like that either. As far as looks the proof version does actually look pretty good, but its just way to easy for marks to show up with that much space

Thank you for the insight. Am awaiting my 2013-S bags of White Mt. and Perry. Will let you know how they look when received.

I have to say, I think that scratches on a coin should reduce it from MS to AU. Even if the mint did it. I mean, its pretty poor for it to be done at the mint.

Ben, then you would have to completely change the definition of MS AND AU as well. By your suggestion, a coin with full strike, full luster and absolutely no wear at all would be AU. Yeah, no, that would not work. As Basebal said, the coin is simply reduced in MS grade and given a details of damaged if the scratches are that bad. These I am speaking of are not deep gouge type scratches, so would simply drop the grade to low 60's.

I got my S rolls of these yesterday. While I didn't break open a roll to investigate each coin - both ends of the roll I did pull from the box had the Perry image on it and both were crisp and clean - not a mark or ding on them. I do believe these will not survive long in circulation as others have noted there is just to much open space to not get a noticeable gouge scratch or some other distracting mark.
Ben as others have said - bag marks and dings have always been a known challenge for collectors of circulating coins. We are some of the select few who (by looking at the mints own data), purchase our coins straight from the mint. That doesn't mean that we should expect every coin we receive should be MS70 - but it does mean we have a better than average chance of getting higher grade MS coins regularly. An Au grade for a coin pulled straight from a mint roll seems like it would change the entire grading scale to me, and drastically revalue entire coin collections.

I got white mountain coins and at end of roll all looked good to me. Maybe 68.

I am very disappointed with the Perry's Victory coins that I received...especially the P mint. They are pretty banged up. I am hoping people understand that's how they come from the mint. I am selling them on ebay and hoping I don't get any bad feedback. I sent them to the buyers exactly as I received them.

I have never bought from the mint, but it seems like that is bad customer service to me...

Kurry, I returned mine precisely because I can't send these things out.
VACookey's set cam today, and it is going back as well. Did not even bother to open the D mint roll. All but 3 of the P mint coins were covered in the same stains. I am guessing they are not rinsing the planchets very well. And they must be using dirty water at that.

OK, serious issue I just got. A blob of stain on the end of roll. This is just damage and I hope it doesn't happen when I order a three roll... but the white moutian were fine but these are not.
