If the delay on the butterfly isn't bad enough I have just heard that the display case for the 1 ounce coins, is now delayed until the 3rd coin, someone que the clown music. when is enough enough.. perhaps all new releases should simply state we will send you your coin when we feel like it, thanks for your continuing business..

I thought the mint somewhat fixed this issue. I guess not. I do not know what the delay with the butterfly is about. THye needed to have at least shipped a couple thousand out by now to dealers and even people getting shipping confirmations so why a 5 - 6 month delay on the butterfly's. Did the butterfly's for the rest all break on there way to Canada?

This is starting to become ridiculous, the mint needs to manage themselves a lot better. How are orders made earlier then others being delayed months while others with later orders served first. How can dealers and post offices receive their coins before MC members

@Sunfish - Well the Mint must think dealers are more important than there own customers. Or they think if they get another big guy mad then the other big guy will come at them but if they get a small guy mad such as a collector then nothing really happens other than them getting mad and showing their madness but writing on a forum.

I agree that the mint needs to get a grasp of the situation. It would be nice to have a production run complete, released and move on compared to this some shipped, some delayed nonsense! Those that get the first items are lucky.

Imagine if Amazon have this kind of delays for shipping stuff, any company with this kind of problem go to bankrupcy.... That's the problem when a company is the only one in his market share, they can do what they want...

Well, they know collector will buy ...if not from them, its from their dealer. either ways, the coins are still being sold.

It's deja vu all over again. Venetian glass bumblebee ordered April 2. Received Aug 27. Venetian glass butterfly ordered March 26 delayed to late Aug/Sep It was so bad last year that I set up a spreadsheet to track delays. The average delay for me last year was over 2 months but I had several more than 4 months. The winner was the dino 1 at six months. That's calculated from the first published ship date to the date of receipt. It doesn't account for the few weeks or month delay built in to the RCM system between when coins are ordered and when they first say they are going to ship. My longest wait this year is the 1914 $5 gold (Nov 29th and counting) but I'm still waiting for many coins that others have already received. I guess I have to start a new 'delays' spreadsheet v.2.0. This is getting extremely frustrating and my rep is going to hear about it Monday. Will it do any good?! Probably not. But me thinks it's a good time to channel numismatic collecting into bullion investing.

i just don't get a 4-5 month delay, without an explanation, can you imagine how many coins they can and will produce and ship in those 4-5 months, just not the missing butterflys.. and yet hundreds of thousands of other coins will be sold and shipped, it defies logic..

Some of you have probably seen this, but for those who have not, I saw this on their website today: Quote: Notice of product delay Item 121899: Fine Silver Coin - Purple Coneflower with Venetian Glass Butterfly ; August / early Sept
Item 123520: 5 oz Fine Silver Coin - 25th Anniversary of the Silver Maple Leaf Coin; Mid / Late April
Item 123746: 50-cent 1/2 oz Fine Silver Coin - Twelve-Spotted Skimmer ; July Fortunately for me, I haven't ordered the butterfly or the silver maple leaf, but for those who are waiting, I think that's appalling. Especially since they have shipped many of the butterfly coins already. In the case of the dragonfly--which I have ordered--I'm not so appalled because this is a supposedly new style/technique. But that's not a valid argument for the butterfly. Shame on the RCM! Rob

I have been following this message board for a number of months and I would like to thank all the members for the great information.
The Mint is in the business to sell coins. It would make sense to me that dealers are their most important clients. I don't know how the dealer arrangement works, but I know that dealers take and sell large quantities of coins including hot and not so hot issues. I would assume Canada Post is the Mint's largest dealer and I have no problem with them receiving their issue before anyone else.
I do agree that the Mint could do a much better job communicating to the public the reasons for shipment delays. I can certainly understand some of the frustration of the people on this board. I suspect that some of their polices create production and shipping problems. For example, you can return any product within 30 days if you are not completely satisfied. You can return a product within 1 year if it has a defect. This can lead to a lot of processing time for their staff dealing with previously issued coins. For example, I wonder how many people are returning the 2nd dino coin?
Also, when they sell subscriptions with a box this creates a problem. From reading this board I can see that many people subscribe to a series because they want the box that comes with it. They then cancel the series when they receive the box. Again, this creates processing issues for the Mint staff and it must make it difficult to do production runs for coins in the series.
I am a MC member. I do appreciate the free shipping but I also realize that my business is lower in their pecking order that their dealers.

No matter how you look at it, there are a lot more unhappy customers especially those who bought their coins on ebay.

@BrandonMb - I get that but I find it disappointing that businesses seem not to try to make everyone happy anymore. Especially big businesses such as the Mint.

Good info to know - I'm new to ordering from the mint and Canada coins and have been less than impressed so far. I understand delays but this months whole Master Club and how that was handled plus things on backorder. Sad, I could order a few coins from March from GW and have them arrive before my mint order even shipped. I'll cancel that. Since I'm not in Canada I can't go down to my local whatever to order or purchase.
