turkey track New Member United States 15 Posts	Posted 08/12/2013 2:04 pm I received the coin back from NGC today. Unfortunately, they deemed it "not suitable for certification". They did authenticate it, but did not give a variety distinction. So...what is the next step? Do I send it to a different company and hope they certify it, or cut my losses and enjoy knowing I have a unique but badly worn coin? Report this Post to the Staff

John100, NGC authenticated the coin as real, they just won't certify or grade it based on its condition. On the label they have "guaranteed authentic only". Can either of you respond where that info is gleaned from? Can you provide a link to me? I have written to Charlton & Krause asking about grades of the 3 known certified 1858s, but they do not seem to know. I have a 1858 with coinage alignment (VG-8 to F-12). My LCS sent it off to ICCS back in May and we are still waiting for ICCS response. Yes, I feel very lucky, as I bid on a portfolio of Canadian one cent coins (1858 - 1968) and didn't realize the 1858 was coinage orientation until I got home, so I got supremely lucky. I have been trying so hard to find out about the other 3 certified coins, and also to determine how coinsandcanada.com come up with their valuations for all the grades of these 1858s. They only show two known sales of 1858s, one is F-12 damaged ($1,250), the other F-15 corrosion ($142). Hope you are still active on this site Report this Post to the Staff
