I need to clean many of my Australian pre decimal pennies and half pennies, I don't need them any more after noodling and want to give them to kids to play with, also like to generate their interests on coins. But they like the new looking and lustering. I searched on line, they all give the solution of white vinegar mix with slat, but did not work well. Is there any other chemical which I could buy from shop? I don't mind of destroy the coin, just want them looks like new and shining. Thanks guys

I can remember as a kid using Brasso - brings them up like new! (For US collectors, Brasso is an Australian brand of cleaner used for polishing brass objects. Not sure if it's available overseas, but any brass cleaner should do the trick). Not recommended for anything you want to keep, but the kids will love it. Does require a bit of rubbing but the results are spectacular.

Can vouch for Brasso- I have some pennies that were polished with this over 40 years ago- Still Shiny Bright.

to clean coppers the easy way if you are not worry about lost value is sweet tomato sauce (Ketchup = Vinegar, salt, acid from tomato, etc ) just drop some ketchup ,rub with your fingers ... that's it.. if is too dark you can leave the coin for few minutes and rub with your fingers... good luck...
