Can anyone shed some light on this coin? It's a large cent with plenty of wear between 1816-1839. It looks like a possible but doubtful struck from a smaller and defective planchet. Weight is 89.4 grains or 5.8 grams. The only smaller planchet possible for the time span is a
Half Cent planchet but they would be a little larger and heavier. Are there any other possibilities or is this just post mint damage?
Coin is 5/64 inch (.08 inch) thick or slightly over 2 MM. The width is 54/64 inch (.84 inch) wide at widest point or about 21.4 MM. The defective area looks very much authentic and would seem hard to duplicate. The coin is pretty even all around except for the defect area that is a little smaller in diameter. Coins looks copper.
