I found this metal detecting in Del Mar, CA.
This is a beach just North of San Diego by about
20 miles. I've tried to find any info and the closest I have come is a friend who said he knew someone who indicated this guy may have been a goods trader during the turn of the century in S.F.
Anyone wants a challenge, here it is.

I'll try to do some searching later if I can. JW Sachs is more then likely the store it could be used in.

Nice Find!

It could be a Civil War Hard Times Token? Just a guess.

This is ABSOLUTELY NOT a Hard Times token or Civil War token. This is a ca. 1900-1940 maverick trade token. A 'maverick' is a token without the city and state. There is a massive CD with all known mavericks listed, from all the state catalogs, the TAMS and other maverick listings, etc. This piece is not listed, so as of this date, we don't know where it is from. Based on the heresay info that it is local, your best bet is to go to the local libraries, and research the name in the above time period. I just sold my last copy of the CALIFORNIA TRADE TOKEN book, so I can't look it up, but all the mavericks are listed in the CD anyway. Good luck! BTW, mavericks are of only slight value (ie., 25c-$1/up) without a firm attribution, but once attributed, can become quite valuable, obviously depending on where it is from. Be sure to write down the info you get and attach it to your mavericks, to prove to future collectors the info. I have LOTS of identified mavericks in my collection, and I'm always seeking more!
