I don't know of a time when a joint wasn't a good place to be.

cfuller43,

back in the 80s when I was a YN, I begged my parents to take me to McDs as often as possible so I could get all of the coins I think I ended up with a couple full sets of them plus many extras. I thought that was the coolest thing as a kid- getting money from countries that I had only seen in books. My dad's favorite cereal is Almond Delight so it was easy to get all of those notes too.

with hyperinflation in some countries, I bet the coins/notes were cheaper than actually having something made up to give away.

biokemist6 - Thanks for that, I was wondering if I had made it all up myself.
By the way, I'm really not that old, I'm only 28. I just recall alot from my childhood.

quote halfabustisbetter: "I don't know of a time when a joint wasn't a good place to be."

halfabust, the point was that "coke" and "joint" have taken on new meanings than what they meant years ago. Keep in mind Merle Haggard wrote those lyrics over 25 years ago. The comment was more relevant then.

Sure I remember it. The McDonalds giveaway was in 1987 or 88. There have been several different give-aways of foreign coins and banknotes by the cereal companies since the 1960's. I never ate much cereal and the types I ate didn't have those promotions (I usually ate Special K) so I never bothered to notice those promotions very much. I do know that it seems like the most common note given away was the Indonesea 1 sen note.
