I found this coin while going through some world coins. It has been badly damaged and doesn't look right. The weight is 7.6g and has a sort of cast look about it.

Not enough detail to be able to tell for sure but something that looks that bad can't be good LOL.

The thing that makes me think that it is a counterfeit is that when silver is warn down it doesn't leave a rough bubbled surface, also it is under weight by 4g.

Looks like the usual black metal type of alloy found in counterfeits of this period. I have three of these, of contemporary dates. They would have had a silvery look, when somebody first attempted to circulate them. It most probably has a high amount of tin and lead in the alloy. Solder would have been the source of that. Solder is easy to cast. Aluminium milk bottle tops make excellent molds. I used to have fun doing this as a kid.
Remember, these 'coins' are counterfeits, not fakes. They were intended to circulate.
Two bob was a lot of money way back in 1935! Two bob in 1935 represents over four dollars in today's values.
For poor out of work people, counterfeiting was tempting, despite the penalties.

Thank you for your help everyone I think I will keep this coin just because it is something different. It might also help me to identify other counterfeits.

It is 4 grams underweight and despite the wear it has to be a counterfeit coin. with Sel that it IS worth hanging onto so that you can ascertain the validity of other coins

Guaranteed counterfeit. I have many contemporary counterfeit Florins from KGV to KGVI & they all have the same look about them. I can assure you it's a contemporary counterfeit. Made back in the day to make some money from a little bit of lead!
