Hello, Do you think this is a proof quarter? Also what grade? I don't know about the grade on the seateds but it appears to have the light scratching that is consistent with being cleaned. I will leave the grading up to someone with a higher pay grade than myself. Beautiful coin though!

It does not look like a proof to me. At best, I think it will grade a low AU but there is good possibility it receives a details grade. There is a scratch in the left obverse field and the toning on the reverse looks questionable.

It doesn't have that sharp edge look that most proof coins from that era exhibit. I'd say a nice business strike probably grading around AU50/53 may have been cleaned some time ago the retoning is nice and looks original, but I believe it is hiding tale-tell signs of cleaning and hairline scratches. Is that a scratch on the obverse to the left of Liberty? It may be detailed graded for a TPG most likely.

My first thought is that it is not a proof. Second thought is that Liberty's facial features look very odd. Third thought is unusual texture to the fields and Liberty's shield.

Nope, not a proof and as mentioned, AU50 or so. With all those hairlines, I can not see it NOT getting a cleaned details.

with the previous posts. Unfortunately, I don't see a proof coin here. It appears cleaned and then re-toned. I also suspect tooling to enhance Liberty's facial features.

Yeah, toning certainly looks suspect.

Here is a certified proof 1862 Quarter for comparison. It is also marked as cleaned. No scratches just spotting. This is a scan and makes the spotting look worse than it is to the eye. The spotting is toning spots. I don't think your 1862 is a proof.
