at first look it seems to be PMD, but wouldn't there be zinc visible if it were scratched? Maybe a damaged planchett? But then again if it were a damaged planchett the hair would have somewhat been imprinted..

The groove in the back of the head still looks like faint impression from die strike. More note-able in the 1st photo.

PMD; the nick on the back of the head is the clincher.

Hmmm...PMD. Otherwise...wouldn't you see part of the hairline in the area in question that runs into the hairline? How deep are the marks John1? Kind of interesting that all 3 marks are pretty much the same angle and length.

Don't know how deep, deep enough to cast a decent shadow I guess. Also deep enough that if it was PMD there should be zinc showing

John1...Looks like the groves are as deep as the letters are high..Is that correct...?

I would say the marks are a hair shallower.
