I have recently decided to liquidate some of my coins. Due to age and I feel I have way to many. One Item I decided to downsize were my American Eagles Bullion Over The Years I Have been buying 10 -12 per year when they first come out. I listed 5 different years at a buy it now of $35 with the number available. to my surprise I sold all 50 + the 1st night.
Now My Dilemma. I Just got 1 back, With a note Quote: "The American 2012 Silver Dollar is beautiful! However, I have made a mistake- I already own this coin. If you have a 2008-2009-2010 or 2011 available for purchase, please process an exchange and I will gladly pay the difference in cost (if any) Many thanks for your co-operation.
What to do? The Customer wants me to spend another $2 to send them another 1 In 2012 when I bought the Eagle I Paid $30.95 heck in 2011 I paid $33, so I knew I would lose a small amount when I sold at $35 2013 was $32.86 total cost of transaction was: ebay Fee $3.85 Pay Pal fee $1.32 Postage $1.69 Packaging $.40 By my Calculations cost to make $35 was $38.21 Of Course I will get my 20% ebay refund which is .$76. So I Only lost $2.45 Thanks for Your Input

Id do the swap personally. Just tell him its wouldnt be a problem but ask that he pay the 2 dollars for shipping.

Well you could add the extra fees into the cost difference that the customer is willing to pay.

I'd do it. The buyer can return the coin for any reason and get a refund. You could either offer the refund or make a swap. I'd do a swap. I had my first ebay return this month. Sold a mixed date roll of proof silver Washingtons and got different dates back. Oh well, at least I got proof silver Washingtons back and saved a lot of grief by not pushing it and just issuing a refund.

Sounds like someone filling an album swaping out what he needed for doubles of others

Quote: Sounds like someone filling an album swaping out what he needed for doubles of others Actually the guy is a ebay seller of coins with over 2,000 positive feedbacks! I don't want to reveal the seller and didn't need the headaches of a "he said, she said" case over $30 in lost value. I am happy that I dumped a bunch of silver on ebay last month though. Almost $4k in sales and one return is not too bad I guess.

I don't like playing games. I'd just tell him to return the coin if he doesn't like it.

I agree its not a big deal in the scheme of things you at least got the same thing back. Certainly cant complain about selling some silver before the crash

Do the exchange and add the cost in. The buyer offered to pay difference. Not sure why he didn't contact you and make these arrangements BEFORE sending it back though.

Wiff99.... I applaud you for your efforts. I wish more ebay sellers and coin collectors were as contientious and courteous as you are. The fact that you want to help this guy, despite his admitted mistake is a credit to you.
