Whatever it is it certainly isn't a roman coin. Perhaps its a lead seal?

I would have said Barbarous minim but 18mm is no where near 'Minim'!

It's not lead, its a 'bright' base metal, only seem to have one like this in the whole of my coins/tokens but have no idea at all on this..... though the head does seem to strike a cord in my brain somewhere.....

Looks like it might be a Greek coin. Could stand a bit of cleaning, perhaps.

I can see a 'thunderbolt' and Greek style letters straight across the reverse. My guess would be Sicily. Maybe some Normans came 'home' with some souvenirs

My first impression of the reverse was thunderbolt as well, letters under starting with AΩ.... perhaps.

However the portrait looks Athens like to me.

But then again maybe the reverse is a galley and it's Phoenician.

The style looks Greek, but there really isn't enough detail visible to say for sure.

I see a thunderbolt too. The head strikes me as being a Herakles wearing lionskin. I cannot for the life of me find anything similar though.

Here is a fresh picture of the reverse.
Will post another after more of a clean (if I can get it much better)

The way I am holding it there is a 180 flip from the Obv.

Well that will be enough with the 'brush'. Better to simply make ID with what you got than with what you 'had'

yeah the soft toothbrush has really mashed it up .............
Giving it an overnight soak now then will give it another soft clean and will take a few better pictures. The last one I posted had a strong light on it, it has exactly the same detail as the earlier pictures, the only difference is the coin is in a different light, is cleaner (not much) and is being held in a different position.
