I see that NGC has a free online coin census, where they tell you how many of a particular coin graded MS-63, 64, 65, etc. PCGS seem s to have this also but they charge a monthly or yearly fee. ICG doesn't seem to have this & I didn't check ANAACS. Is this info readily available for free somewhere online or in one of the monthly mags?

I don't believe ANACS or ICG publish a census. You can obtain a free membership at Heritage Auctions, here:

http://coins.ha.com/

With that free membership, you can browse their huge (over a million coins) archive of past sales. Each of those sales includes PCGS and NGC Census numbers for the coin offered, in that grade. I don't shop for coins online without a Heritage window open, as a value and rarity reference.

I agree with Dave and strongly recommend that everyone registers with Heritage. Even if you never buy anything, if you bid on items, you can also get their free catalogs (which are really, really nice and can be used as reference material). In addition to the NGC and PCGS census info, you can also get a feel for coin values as you get the added benefit of being able to search completed auctions and see what coins sold for.

ANACS does offer a free pop. report. Here is a link to their website. You need to register first.
