I just received an email that 1 oz. proof eagles are available at the US Mint for the 'low' price of $1,810.00! I think a bit much over spot. I guess none for me.
Rest in Peace

There is a grid of prices based on current spot value.

http://catalog.usmint.gov/wcsstore/...cingGrid.pdf

Price should drop to $1710 tomorrow.

I wonder why so high then today. That wouldn't be so bad at 1710, but I thought I read the Mint changed the formula.

So looks like they always try and have about a 200 250 dollar premium on them. If they dont drop it down I have no idea how theyll sell any without a spot bounce back.

From what I understand, they only update the prices once a week on Thursdays. I would expect to see a lower price on the website tomorrow. If gold drops below $1350 then they should go to $1660.

I thought that was silver only and gold was on a live pricing grid. Maybe they changed it. For what its worth theyve always been much slower to lower prices then raise them

Man, those prices do suck. I buy each of my boys a tenth ounce AGE every year but at 2 bill a piece this year thats like a $60 premium per coin. I guess I may just bite the bullet and bump them up to quarters from now on. I am such a "Mark" for the US mint, I seem to love all their products.

Hopefully the price will reflect closer to spot soon. I recall when the pricing was at the $1,800 price, spot was higher. Who knows what they're up to. I read an article last night as to how much and great quantity that the US Mint has recently sold. Not sure to who.

Id guess dealers. I feel like they have quicker price changes for the bulk buyers than they do to the general public. Then again people may just be buying it up even with the huge premiums.

I agree with everyone, you know these prems are out of whack in a sense.

BUT,, what choice does someone have if they collect these such as myself? I have no choice but to buy them from the mint every year.

That said, the less they sell of these, the better, the way I see it, because then the prem should over time build. I do see that proof eagles are one of the most desired proof coins in the world.

I really haven't looked up what happened to any of the Eagles except the 2009 double relief and that 1 really took off.

You know, if I had the time, I would like to go back and dig into that.

That said,,, I believe the 2012 gold ealges already are doing well on the premium side of things because of the low sales, and I think going forward this will be a reoccuring them.

BTW, question for everyone- Does the Royal Canadian Mint drop prices in similiar fashion to the US Mint when gold and silver drop?
