Fair question inventor719 ... short answer is that I have gained over a long time of study sufficient knowledge of this coin series to distinguish fakes from genuine coins. I was being polite to the seller by suggesting 'replica' ... this 'coin' is in fact a die struck medal being passed of by a (hopefully) unknown seller as a genuine USA classic silver commemorative. BTW ... we have discussed this same issue before ... on Page 2 or so of the link below our resident expert commems offers his knowledge that the entire 50-coin classic silver commemorative series was replicated as medals ... this particular ebay example is one of them ... hence my note to seller as a replica. https://goccf.com/t/126805&whichpag...s=gettysburgHoping the seller does the right thing before a newer collector gets burned. I have seem a set of the silver commems cast in fine silver proof finish, but those are all marked COPY. This thing in the listing is a sad replica. It is flatter than a genuine version, the shape of the faces is a facsimile. I can't put my finger on it, but the replicas of cents and Buffalo nickels that you see sold as hole fillers and paperweights have the same facial characteristic. I agree that the noise on the field in front of the soldiers suggests a cast medal. In the genuine article, the soldiers look like brothers. These guys, not so much.

Quote: how do you know that this coin is a replica? The best way I can think of describing it is it just looks mushy and off. The details dont have the crisp look that real ones have. http://www.ebay.com/itm/PCGS-MS63-G...em19db25875dThat ones not a super high grade or anything but everything still has a sharp look to it. Hopefully that makes sense

On top of that in the real one you pictured there isn't a hard inner line inside the rim like there is on the fake. The second line is waaayyyy too pronounced.

Actually the more I look at it all of the fonts are not lined up correctly on the reverse. I guess this could pass if you had no idea but on a little inspection it is a fairly bad fake.

The eyes, that's it... it's the eyes. Also the serif on the L in HALF DOLLAR is missing. Wrong font.
The obverse right side, the star should be centered between REUNION and AMERICA
