Apparently some new programming ebay installed recently now intercepts and prevents cuban coins and stamps from being sold on ebay. They claim its due to the embargo against cuba, but pre communist era coins and stamps are not included under the embargo. Does anyone know if this new ebay program also includes iranian coins or other embargoed nations? I've sold quite a few shah era coins which like Cuba arn't banned from being bought and sold since they are pre-embargo products.

I wouldn't have thought that there could be political implications from banning current Cuban coins on ebay.
A similar thread was initiated in regard to North Korean coins.

Can someone elucidate for a non-US citizen that finds the whole embargo of Cuba rather silly as to what date this started?

I'm guessing my 'visitors coinage' is post embargo but what about coins from pre-54 for instance?

Pre-'54 should be fine. The embargo dates to when Fidel Castro made the fatal decision to topple the regime which was pouring so many gambling dollars into the pockets of the US.

Many thanks for the swift response SsuperDdave, never knew what the embargo was all about .... sounds an even sillier reason for it to have gone on so long than I would have guessed lol.

Cuba is one of the top tourist destinations for us Canadians. Discreetly put the word out, for example to the concierge or the bartender at your hotel, that you collect older coins, and that you are really interested in old American coins, and you'll be pleasantly surprised indeed at what comes out of the woodwork... So I've heard, hehehe... ;-)

The penny is perhaps the most debatable coin in circulation, as it costs more than one cent to make one and no person likes the things. A sports store is so federal reserve up with them that the store owner has declared cents banned from the property.

Nothing new lucy, The Greentree Inn in Mount Laurel NJ did it 20 years ago. I stopped going there because they rounded the check up. It's the principle, if you want to make your life easier, don't charge me for it. Round down.
