I don't think so, and I sure hope not because I have had to open more than 20 against un-paying buyers in the last 12 months.

No, ebay only holds the case against you if you lose it

Open arbitration cases rather than just give Non-paying Bidder strikes for non-payers? You guys must like stress. It works against the general seller system, too - you can set your selling account to automatically refuse bids from people who've gotten more than 1 NPB strike in the last 12 months, so pushing the issue does nothing to protect the next guy. An NPB relieves you of fees, as well.
I may be selling to a different demographic, but I've only had two non-paying bidders since 1999. Last year was fairly slow, though - I only had about $4000 in sales (zero non-payers).

I have had several problems with non payers. We would send them message after message and they never sent one back. We normally just cancelled the transaction, but the last one was a pretty expensive item, so I wanted to guarantee that I would get my fee back.

I don't blame you for feeling that way; nonpayers are a pain in the butt. But an NPB Strike gets you there with a whole lot less hassle.

I've always just reported like Super Dave said NPB, and I've always had any fees I was out, returned or a credit done - within a day or so, never an issue. No hassles.

All NPB deserve a strike, if only to restrict further unpaid bids/purchases for other sellers. I don't know if anyone else has noticed, but part of this problem stems from eBays own marketing settings. After making a purchase ebay dispays several identical items to which have just been purchased. I am convinced some buyers see the same item cheaper, pull out of the sale, and then buy the cheaper option.

Whats the NPB strike? doesn't it do that automatically when the case is closed?

Quote: Whats the NPB strike? doesn't it do that automatically when the case is closed? Wow. It's been so long since I've had to do one, I didn't realize they'd integrated it into the dispute process. Way back, it was just a seller action. OK, Bassmaster, I was wrong with what I posted here earlier. You have to go through a dispute now to make a Strike stick. Let's just pretend I didn't say anything.

I make people use immediate payment with buy it now paypal only so they always pay. Opening cases doesn't look bad unless they give you bad feedback but whatcha gonna do.

The only problem with pay immediately is auctions. The ones I have had trouble with has been people bidding with a few days left and then not paying.

I just had one ebay snafu with an antique pocket watch that the buyer returned, apparently polished, although he claims that he wiped off some "moisture". Anyway he stated originally that I did not describe the "dents" in the case and that he would be returning it for a refund. I would have had no problem with the return but it was not returned in the condition that I sent it in. I contacted ebay customer service and she said that if it was not in the condition that it was sent in to refuse the refund and the buyer will open a case. After the buyer opened the case and further elaborated on the "wiping off the moisture" I went ahead and gave a full refund...then he dinged me with a NEGATIVE FEEDBACK. Oh well, life goes on.
