Still don't know how I feel about this one. It's less vibrant than the RCM mock up, the flower bit is colourized but and not exactly so on the mock up, but the size actually suites this coin just fine. The hexagonal beehive in the background works out pretty well too and has me wanting to see what the next coin in the series is going to look like. I'm guessing spider and web. (i colour-balanced pretty good I think, so this is fairly close to the actual colour) love the hive, but the bee itself.... could use more yellow? The whole thing seems better in black and white.

Thanks for sharing "real" images vs. the RCM's artist depictions. Is the colourized area over engraved surfaces or just flat?

I don't see any real value to this coin. Where is the value in this coin with a mintage of 10,000 and 1/4oz of silver.
Am I missing something here?

@ commems: There's a bit of a thickness to the colourized area. It's not too noticeable though and definitely not a planned feature I don't think. Would be a terrific idea to make the bee bit pop out more.
@ jsinger21: What you're missing is that there are those that collect for the sake of collecting :) Value or not, my wife and I thought this was a nice coin and had the pocket change for it.

I saw the coin in person and I agree it's a nice coin. I just don't know how the mint came up with that particular price.

Quote: love the hive, but the bee itself.... could use more yellow? Actually, this is very lifelike. Keep in mind honeybees are much less bright yellow than bumblebees or wasps. I quite like this coin, although it's not something I'm likely to collect.

Quote: What you're missing is that there are those that collect for the sake of collecting :) Value or not, my wife and I thought this was a nice coin and had the pocket change for it. So if the mint releases 1,000 over priced coins we should all rush out and collect all of them for the sake of collecting and the love of numismatics. Wow, that's just insane. This coin is so ridiculously priced and not that cosmetically pleasing let alone not even an original subject that I will wait for it to resell closer to its PM value next year to buy it. I think anybody foolish enough to pay $70 for a colored silver coin with $6 worth of silver will regret their purchase. With all the hundreds of coins released this year there is no need for this coin to exist other than to move silver at an outrageous mark up. If silver does go bellow $20 and people loose interest in coin collecting this will be one coin that will devalue to around $5. Please don't freak out that I'm making it only about the money, you've missed the point. My point is if the Mint released to much product it will cause less popular coins to devalue to the point of destroying the hobby. I'm glad you love your coin, lets see how much people love it a year from now or if it just ends up on the trash heap.

Well, if 10 000 people are willing to pay 70$ for 1/4oz, I think the market going crazy... Yes, some people really buy this one for collecting or because they really like the design, but for the other one, I don't understand...

This guy sold several gold plated pennies for over $10, just a penny nothing else. http://www.ebay.com/itm/24K-Gold-Pl...em5d3d7232d3Just because people are willing to do stupid things is not a justification for the purchase of this coin. The price of this coin is already trending downward in the after market. I think this coin will be selling bellow $50 next year. If your intention is to collect pretty items and loose money go buy something else. What do you think is going to happen to coin collecting two or three years down the road when people start dumping all these crappy over issued coins. Price crash and the hobby will die off. People will switch from NCLT coins to coins that will hold value.

You're right Dooby Rak, It's like the hockey card craziness collecting in 1990s... They produced so much sets that you can buy it for 1/10 they we're sold... For coins, it will not crash like that, but for sure, lots of coins will be selling under their issue price. It's just a matter of time... Every bubble as an end, and when there's opportunity to make easy money, lot's of people getting involved... And when the market cool down, all those people will go away... Look at Lego set, it's the same trend... When everybody try to do the same thing, the market get saturated and the price slow down... Like the tech bubble in the stock market... It's always the same pattern...

Is this the same discussion that people had on here a few years back about the colored bird coins? Look where those are now - Though the mintage never sold out the first time around, Maybe the second coin will be "hot" and cause interest in the first one.
--I personally like the coin and ordered one. Doesn't matter if it goes up in value or not.

You ever wonder why they made this coin out of silver and not nickle? Higher % profit on nickle coins but if it was made of nickle could they sell more than 10,000? Never happen. This was done to test the markets willingness to buy high priced silver. People are paying 10X spot for just the metal on this coin. The art and mintage don't justify the price. But making a silver coin will make them an enormousness profit.

I disagree about "hobby die off" with the million of issues for low price around me. Why the collectors should care about the coins that they do not like / do not collect? Let's take for example this "Bee and the Hive" - the coin itself is average, but the series will be nice. But anyway - I will not buy it. Just do not see it's place in my collection. And I do not care - if it's price now $70 or $50 or even less. Who should care - people, who try to do the money on every issue, because it "easy money" (it's not true, but they think so). They will stuck forever with the coins which nobody wants, and collectors - will continue buy the items that they interested in them. That's IMO. Quote: --I personally like the coin and ordered one. Doesn't matter if it goes up in value or not. this is also my thought about coins that I like. Specifically to this one - will not order.
