Believe that these should have a reeded edge, but there were a lot of forgeries.

Hello

Re Plain edge is Ok never come across reeded 10 pence but the 5 pence has reeded edge.

Coin looks OK to me

Which coin book you using ?

Standard Catalogue of the coins of Scotland, Ireland, Channel Islands & Isle of Man by R Lobel

Collectors Coins Ireland 997AD to 2003 (21st Ed 2004) by R.J Marles

say nothing about reeded edge on 10 pence.

I'll have to check other books to see any mention of reeded edge

yours

michael

Yes, Michael's right, it's the 5 with the reeded edge. BTW it was contemporary forgeries I was referrng to, mainly silver washed brass. The rim on yours looks to be mercifully free of too many dings and dents. Nice piece.

I agree that there are lots of forgeries of these around, mainly contemporary.
But just judging from the pictures alone, this one looks OK.
Standard checks should be applied, if the need arises.
