Does battery strength or even battery brand-type make a difference in depth or accuracy of a MD? I have been using some generic rechargeable batteries and I seem to be getting more false hits and erratic behavior than I did with regular Duracell. By the way I am using a ACE250. Any insight welcome.

batteries do matter and keeping fresh batteries in your machine is always a good idea.
One question about how you cycle your batteries.
when you change your batteries do you cycle the partially discharged batteries so that they are completely discharged before recharging them again?
For most rechargeables this is important as they can actually hold a false full charge when they are used again and not provide optimum output for your machine.
The next question is about where your searching, is it the same area or a different area where you are experiancing more false hits?
mineralization(salt) can give you many false hits.
I'm not real familiar with the 250 but on my whites if I start getting a lot of false hits I change to relic or a custom program to defeat them.

I have a simple Radio Shack metal detector and the battery charge is important, though it seems like when the batteries die, they die really fast. I usually can tell whey they are going dead because I get hits even when standing still. Keep a fresh set on you to make sure that's not a problem.

Dump the rechargeable batteries, use those in a camera or something and go back to Duracell. I tried them once in my Ace 250 and that was all it took. I got about half the battery life out of a brand new set.

Thanks for all the responses. I am going to go buy some good batteries and give it a try. I'll post my thoughts after I try it a couple times. Cory

I actually like recharageable batteries, the output stays at 5 volts until they are dead unlike alkaline which decrease in voltage as they discharge.

I have the same doubts. I don“t know if rechargeable batteries deliver same, best or worst results thant common batteries.

The Ace series in particular has a problem with any batteries when they hit one bar. My At Pro, however, does not have this problem, and it can be rode down to one bar and be fine. Also, I use rechargables now so as to not have to buy new batteries.

I tried regular batteries and the biggest difference I noticed is that they seem to last forever. Maybe my rechargables are just bad? Who knows!
