What do you say about Minelab brand? Here in Brazil they are becoming more and more populars, but the price doesn´t help.
I don´t know but it seems they are kind of professional detectors.

I've used Minelab for many years starting with the 17000,SD 2100,SD 2200,GPXtreme ,GPX4500 and now the GPX5000 there been great detectors just look at the "Aussie Gold Finds" thread to see what they can do and yes all the gold on that thread was found with Minelabs.
There are a few Minelabs that are cheaper than the GPX5000 well I think all detectors are cheaper LOL but I wanted the best and yes I paid through the nose for it but heck look at the gold the thing finds.
Anyway this has just arrived on the market and it's worth a look,it's the Minelab CTX3030 here's a run down on the detector.
Minelab have the CTX3030 waterproof to 10 feet (3 m) wireless audio FeCo discrimination :it can identify multiple targets at the same time, Full colored display, GPS locating, and PC mapping (google maps)
The only thing it hasn't got is the kitchen sink LOL but it's worth a look
don't forget to swing low and slow and be safe
happy hunting

I saw the topic. It´s impressive! There´s a brazilian metal detecting group using Minelab, I say the YouTube videos. I will star probably with a Garrett Ace 250 an as an upgrade I will think about Minelab.

Good for you cipriani I've use detectors since 82 upgrading when I could afford it or when it has paid it's way for a new detector and if you enjoy detecting you will do the same, There must be a lot of beaches that haven't had or seen much action with detectors and the only place I can think of is Reo and tell me (if you can) do you live there and has Reo got plenty of beaches what a great start that would be for you but be weary of the armed thugs there as they can bring you undone don't forget to swing low and slow and be safe happy hunting

That´s a good idea. Upgrading through time and when the equipment pays itself. Metal detecting is just starting here, there are just a few experient people. But it´s growing the interest. Yes, there are a lot of beaches here. I live in a town named Bauru, São Paulo state. Rio de Janeiro state is around 700km away. There are so many famous beaches there. I already visited them. Copacabana beach, like "Pão de Açucar" seems like a Babel Tower: lots of people all around the world for years and years. The odds of finding something interesting are very high. Here, in my state, there is a city named Ubatuba. It has 102 beaches varying from desert and acess difficult ones to crowdy ones. It´s also a good idea searching there. One of those Ubatuba´s beaches, named "Shell Beach" is only 15m long the ground is covered, or made of shells. Look: This is how the ground is: Copacabana Beach, in a calm day: I think Australia and Brazil are close in many ways: beautiful beaches, good weather, cheerful people. I have been watched on tv, a kind of reality show presenting Perth region. Very, very beautiful beaches, craft made beers. As soon as I get my metal detector I´ll let you know. Thanks my friend.

Just wanted to add a little something before you spend your cash. The Gar250 is not a good beach machine and if it is mainly for the beach that you want one, you will be a lot better off with a different type of machine. I would love to be able to detect those places in your pictures.... sun, sea and silver! Oh, almost forgot to answer your original post, Minelab machines are excellent machines, as was mentioned earlier check out the Minelab CTX3030. Also look at the CScope range. They too have excellent detectors, not as good as ML but one of the better makes.

I don't understand how anyone could go from an Ace250 to a CTX3030? I have not personally used a CTX3030 but I have a hunting partner that swings one. Not saying it isn't a stellar machine but @ $2500? Give me a break...

thanks for the info, MetDet71. I will try to detect far from beach. I like around 600km from beaches. Maybe when I upgrade I go to the seascapes. Is Garrett Ace250 good for metal detecting around rivers and tiny lakes?
Yes jerseyben, Minelab prices frightens me a lot!

For around freshwater the Gar At pro is excellent for a new user or even some mid range users. The 250 is also a good machine for a starter, just dont try to use it on a beach, it will be very 'jittery' because of different salt content.

And this is aimed at jerseyben, you seem to favour the garrett metal detecting machines...... this is fine, they are a good machine for anyone that wishes to have a novice switch on and go machine. They will not perform on a beach. That is a fact. The original poster asked about Minelab machines, they are by far superior to anything garrett have to offer or ever will have to offer. garrett are a mass produced machine that is specifically aimed at the US as a machine that [anyone can use]. I advised the guy to wait before spending money for a few reasons. If you disagree and think that garrett machines are better than the stuff Minelab produce, please post your thoughts and reasons as I would very much like to see them. Obviously this is only my opinion but as I have been a 'novice' metdet for 26 years and a profession 'treasure hunter' for 6 years, I offered an unbiased opinion to the original poster in an effort to A.. save him wasting money... and B.. to answer his original question.

I saw a dude on the beach a few weeks ago using the AT PRO and it has a button that you can push for it to drown out the salty beaches so you only pick up signals for the good stuff. If that doesn't work can y'all let me know.

Best thing is to buy one and see what happens. It appears that not much notice is taken of advice posted here anyway so just buy one and see how you go with it.

I agree with Met, I don't think anyone reads past their own post, lol! I received my first detector about 1973, I now use Minelab and have been on group hunts and have many friends that detect quite a bit and many use Minelab. They aren't massed produced so you may pay a bit more for the engineering. If someone shows up with a G-machine, you can count the fact that Minelab will walk away with the goods.
