Justinian I. 527-565. AV Solidus (21mm, 4.37 g, 6h). Constantinople mint, 10th officina. Struck 537-542. Helmeted and cuirassed bust facing, holding globus cruciger and shield / Angel standing facing, holding long cross and globus cruciger; star to right; I//CONOB. DOC 8h; MIBE 6; SB 139

Definitely a nice coin for sure. I don't have any gold so I don't know much about them.

I don't even have a Justinian I bronze yet. lol

For the Byzantine gold coin collectors, solidus from reign of Anastasius I to Romanus II as around 96-98% gold. From Nicephoros onwards, solidus were discontinued and replaced by histamenon. From then on, debasement came into play. By the end of the reign of Nicephoros III, histamenons were only 36% gold.
