If I Buy Modern Commemorative Coins Profit Today

commems CCF Master Historian of USA Commemoratives United States 12266 Posts	Posted 04/24/2013 10:10 pm From my own assessments of the two titles, I would say that if you already own a copy of Modern Commemorative Coins, I don't see much point in also buying Top 50 Most Popular Modern Coins as there appears to be noticeable overlap between the two books. (I own a copy of Modern Commemorative Coins and have reviewed the contents of Top 50.) If I may ask, what are you hoping to gain by purchasing/reading either book? I just thought it came out 2 years later and might have information not in the 2010 Modern Commemoratives book. I've just ordered the Modern Commemoratives book. The only current book I have on coins is the 2013 North American Coins & Prices, which covers U.S. Canadian and Mexican coins, and I am finding errors in there as to mintages. Also I am hoping the Modern Commemoratives book would have more definitive information on each coin. Since I am pretty late to collecting modern commemoratives I'd like to have the best information available. If you know of a better book I'd love to know it. Thanks so much. commems CCF Master Historian of USA Commemoratives United States 12266 Posts	Posted 04/25/2013 6:39 pm If you're looking for a recently published book that includes solid background and history on the modern US commemorative issues, I would suggest you consider A Guide Book of United States Commemorative Coins; it is published by Whitman. It is a few years old at this point (published in 2008) but does a nice job with all issues up through 2007; it also includes information on the classic US commemoratives. As the modern US commemorative series is an active series, any book published on it is almost instantly out-of-date to some degree. Modern Commemorative Coins is a different type of book vs. the Guide Book mentioned above. It is focused more on modern coin investment strategies than it is on providing historical/background information on each issue. The Guide Book is more about coin information with some pricing information included. I view Modern Commemorative Coins more as a supplement to a good reference book on commemoratives rather than a standalone reference volume. Collecting history one coin or medal at a time!
