I think I paid about $90 for this 2oz Gold plated coin, mintage of 18,845. It has a great design and was Minted at RAM Why on earth would you pay $145 for a 1oz piece of junk like the kitten offering, When there are items like these out there.

These are simultaneously the best and worst things I have ever seen. I sincerely hope the next series is the Glorious Goldfish Half Ounce Silver.

Sorry, Z but it's not to be. One of the adorable fluffy kitten models ate the glorious goldfish model, so that plan was scrapped. I feel your pain, though.

Yeah, but I'm still looking forward to getting my Fortuna Redux coin in the mail. Of course, that was produced by the Mint of Poland for Niue Island instead of the NZ mint, so maybe that's why...

It's an interesting item to be sure but wouldn't be one for me I'm afraid as I'd regard it more as a paperweight lol. There's certainly been something of a 'buzz' about it though that's for sure and I hope it pleases you as much when you have it in hand as the anticipation of receiving it. Norm

Is it really any worse than this ? A snake coin in a reptile egg? Or these. Or these?

Denco---I can't argue with you, but don't forget the Tuvalu baby snake -- http://www.perthmint.com.au/catalog...in-card.aspx --- I guess many coin-peddlers of the world (Niue, Palau, Cook Islands, etc being at the head of the list of offenders) just have to push it with gimmicks, coins that would be best described as crap-schlock-kitsch-tasteless, ridiculous packaging that costs an arm+leg, etc in their attempts to generate some income. Those silly kitten coins do trigger the gag reflex for a lot of us, but I need to cut some slack for those microscopic "Coin Islands" places. They have some modest tourist income, but little else going on economically -- no manufacturing of any significance, no natural resources to exploit, etc. I don't envy their economic plight and I don't begrudge their trying to work the coin/PM market. If anything, I admire their efforts and I won't fault them for trying to generate some income. That being said, it'd still be nice to see them do some aesthetic upgrading and control of what they put out. I think that Fortuna Redux 6oz cylinder is a ground-breaking masterpiece of artistic metalworking and coin-making and if it wasn't so unfortunately expensive, I'd grab one. It'd be great to see the Coin Islands put some more emphasis on the aesthetically high-end stuff and cut back on the junk they're putting out too much of. But, "Que sera, sera." I can only wonder if Niue is going to hit us with puppies, goldfish or parakeets next...

Yeah, it was the "buzz" that sold me on it. The fact that it was featured at the Berlin World Money Fair made it seem more than yet another "Coin with Crap On It." Probably not worth the asking price, but if any of these "specialty" coins has the potential to go up in value in the long term, I'm guessing it will be this one (especially if nobody ever tries to replicate the feat).

I guess we aren't the target audience for these.
This has me seriously thinking about starting a collection of the worst new coins. The only problem is that I wouldn't pay $150 for them. Maybe I'll have to get them a couple years after they're released when they come back towards melt.

All right, here's the latest: The MAGIC YEAR of HAPPINESS Silver CoinLimited mintage of only 222, but for $1400 you'd think you'd get something more upscale than common glass "Swarovski crystals." Lab created rubies and emeralds? Cubic Zirconium?

It is Mint of Poland though ... hope that's not gonna seduce ya this time Free international shipping too Norm edit: I do like the idea of requesting the cert number of your choice though, wonder if you could get #223?

Oh my.... The Canadians glues on crystals and glass, the Australians wedges in a plastic capsule filled with specks of this and that rocks, the New Zealanders punches in "bite" marks, and now, kittens, in colour... My money's on a furry one next, a silver coin with fluff that smells of roses and pie.
