I have an Australian Silver Kangaroo I was inspecting and on the onbverse it looks like parts of the shiny silver has peeled off almost like irregular strips. Obvious this greatly affects the value but I was wondering what causes something like that? It is not in the original capsule but an air-tite.

Chinese fake with the plating coming off?

I have never heard of lamination errors with genuine bullion coins.
I guess that it IS possible, but when you are working with pure silver under high standards of manufacture, I find it hard to suspect a lamination error.

Need pictures.

Unfortunately I don't have the macro lens to properly photograph. Doesn't seem like a 1994 Kangaroo would be a big candidate to be faked. Interestingly it seems it doesn't effect any of the raised parts of the coins such as the letters in Queen Elizabeth or her Portrait. It seems to stop at on near the edges of raised portions of coin.

Yeah really need to see a pic, have you ran other tests on it to check its authenticity? (weight, size, magnet slide, ring test comparing sound to known genuine silver coins of same shape and weight)
Is it just a pure silver coin, or one with colouring or some other coating put on top?

There are a couple of videos on the detection of modern fake 'proof' bullion coins, here within the CCF.
