Hi! A while back, while working at my gas station, I had a customer come in and trade in two dollar coins for dollar bills. He plopped down two Morgans, 1878 and 1889 (album of those here: http://imgur.com/a/vNm1g. I couldn't say yes fast enough!

So I bought them out of the register shortly afterwards, bought something to put them in. Cool, my oldest coins, my first silver dollar coins, etc!

A few months later I was looking at them, looking at all the different VAMs. And then I decided to check my 1878; I narrowed it down to mint date, mint mark, etc etc, and started looking around. And then when I came across VAM-163 I was like.. woah! My first time checking a coin to see if it had doubling or anything, and there it was!

I have a hard time believing I'm that lucky, so I took a bunch of pictures of the 7th left star, the U, M, etc. I'm almost certain it is VAM-163, but I've never had any experience with this, whatsoever. So here's the link to the album of closer pictures: http://imgur.com/a/CgJaz

And here's just a quick full picture: 1878-Morgan-VAM-163?

Not all of the pictures are great, but I took a bunch and figured I could just upload all of them, to be safe. Any thoughts on this coin? I have no real idea of what sort of grade it might be, what its value might be, etc. Any information would be appreciated!
Rest in Peace

Yeppers. Not many VAMs can be nailed with a single letter, but this is one.

Neat. I was pretty sure, but as I said I wasn't sure if I was overlooking something, or anything along those lines. Thanks!

Man I think I will get a job!
What planet was the person from smoke city?
Morgan's from Heaven just falling in your register.

Some day's its dollars from heaven. Yesterday yard sale's was great for me and not a coin in my pocket.
Just a couple of bucks out of my pocket made my day.

Any idea what this might grade as, and is it worth sending off to have slabbed? I googled and found a few VAM-163 for $100+ but I don't really know what mine would be worth in particular, because I don't know its grade. I really don't want to sell it, because I collect coins to keep (It's cool being able to pull out my box of 2x2s and saying look at all this neat stuff I found in my register over the past year and a half!)

I'd want to see the reverse too, but I really don't think I'd go as far as AU50 on it. Not particularly uncommon in circulated condition and probably not worth slabbing. These are darn near impossible in Mint State, though.
Rest in Peace

I'm with SsuperDdave on this one. This would change the population report on Vamworld to 32 for the (EF)40-45 grade. There is absolutey no reason to have this slabbed. You know it's a VAM163 in EF condition, just put it in a 2x2 or mylar flip and enjoy it.

Thanks, y'all have been a big help. I've got it in one of those plastic 2x2-sized things that snaps together, so I'll just keep it that way and keep it with the rest of my silver. I'm still extremely happy with the coin itself, I love that you can see the doubling so easily without any magnification (on the U, anyways). It's something I can pull out and show off a little bit!
