The 1849-O is a very tough coin to locate in a decent original unmolested grade. They get very pricy in the EF+ range.

Only 300,000 minted

This coin has excited the leading variety expert as he believes this Large O (Oblique Variety FYI) is with a never before seen pairing that diagnosis to a Small O obverse die. TBD this summer when I meet face to face for attributing so stay tuned

I'm at EF40 on this coin. Its dark and nice and original. A really enjoyable addition. What say you oh coin graders of the 21st century?

40 sounds fair enough. The overall appearance of the coin leans to VF35 though. Nice coin but not close grade-wise to the 1845 in your other post. I'd have them 10 points apart and possibly even 15 (35 vs 50).

I'm going with a split grade EF40 obv VF35 rev. in any case it has nice eye appeal and no significant issues. very nice addition to anyone's collection.

EF40 however, the darkness could push a TPG to slab at VF30/35 (a flip of the coin I'd say), this one is a "need to be in hand" to determine the grade. The photos are great but seeing under that darkness can't be shown. Half the coin is showing a weak rim on each side, which also may kick it to VF territory
