Hello. I'd appreciate any guidance. I am trying to identify whether or not this coin is an authentic old coin, or a reproduction. It appears to be a reproduction to my newby eyes. But I am not seeing a line in the coin and can't tell if cast or not. Backside under chariot shows armor but it looks different, almost too simplistic, compared to similar coins. Could that be a clue? I'm worried because either this coin is worthless, though appears to be sterling (have to test yet), or is worth quite a bit of money.

I am researching this for a client who thinks it's real, because that is what she was told (but we all know how that goes).

Thanks so much for any help!!

Wish the pictures were a bit larger, but chances are that it's a reproduction. If it were real it would be a very valuable coin.

You can add larger images to a host like imgur.com and then link to them here using the [img]/img] tag.

At this point I would be inclined to think it is a reproduction. These coins are highly faked and originals sell at fine auction houses for many thousands of dollars. These coins are normally highly detailed and cut by master engravers. (some of the best in all of history). The coin could very well be silver and still be a reproduction. I would suspect that the coin is cast as some of the finer details are missing from both the Chariot and the hair of the Nymph. If you could provided the weight and diameter the likely hood of determination would greatly improve. Note I can't immediatly find a matching fake die.

It should be silver, which it doesn't appear to be. It lookis as though it is a cast reproduction. This is based upon the soft detail, casting seam on the edge and evidence of a casting sprue which can be seen on the first image of the edge.

I am certain that it is a reproduction.

Coin measures 1 1/2" in diameter and is very light weight. I have no way to weigh it but I thought it would way more.

I really appreciate all of your assistance!! Sounds like it's a reproduction.
