1986 Penny on dime planchet, not graded, wondering what the value might be (not selling as to many people have told me I'd never find another)where would I send it for grading? It is non magnetic, and weighs 2.075g

Not a dime planchet, all post-silver dimes are magnetic.
Likely a foreign planchet.

Probably NGC or CCCS best for authenticating/grading. I would guess $150 to $350 raw. Maybe $350 to $500 at auction graded, less fees.

To help narrow down the search, I could conduct an XRF test on that coin, so at least you then know the composition and year, and could see what country/planchet that coin was intended for...

Maybe struck on a New Zealand cent planchet although they usually look smaller than the posted example. It is the right year and weight. The metal of the posted coin would need to be bronze which appears close in color to the pictured coin but hard to tell.

Zimmy - While the coin does appear to have a bit of a bronze colour to it in the picture, I can't imagine that IET would say this is a dime planchet if it wasn't silver in colour. Bronze and nickel should be easier for anyone to tell apart.

My hunch is that he meant to type magnetic. Seems too coincidental that the weight is exactly the same as that of a dime.

it is silver in colour just like a dime or nickel, when I found it a local coin dealer checked it out thinking someone just electroplated a penny, weighed in and measured that of a dime. Will check again on if it's magnetic but I was thinking that it wasn't. Already local collectors have shown interest at the latest club meeting. just started collecting with my son since Christmas and have only had the coin about two weeks. Weather it is or isn't on a dime planchet it's still cool.
