so while heading into my TD bank yesterday out of habit I asked for a box of pennies but while I had gotten it they told me that I was the last one that had in the whole area that I live in as the bank of Canada truck had just came in and take all the boxes. so my area is actually drained of pennies has this happened any where else?

I'm suprised you got it at all. I thought the banks had stopped giving them out? Maybe I am wrong on this but I thought it was in the banks intrest to give them back to the Mint or Bank of Canada for melting-alloy recovery program (think it is the mint but not 100% sure).

Put a holographic sticker on it, and sell it on ebay...

It's crazy to think that banks simply do not give out pennies anymore. It would be even more of an adjustment if the US did the same.

i picked up a box at my bank today. actually it was $27 in loose rolls as they have not had empty boxes to put them anymore, and its not my bank but a bank I have picking up pennies from for the past 8 months. my pennies are building up as I and picking up more than I can look through week to week.

yes, the Canadian banks are not supposed to give them out anymore. (but if you're nice they might anyway...) One branch I was in today said they are only allowed to ship out 5 boxes a day but have been receieving more than that from customers do they have a huge pile in the back room!

lol....HOW is he managing to sell them at such a premium? Especially when they are going to be clearly searched and obviously pulled of anything "collectable"

Pennies are still to be had? Pretty soon we'll have twinkies again! Time to make a few phone calls & check out a few banks who want to unload all those pesky pennies!
