I'm not really interested in stacking these, but with the recent drop in spot prices I thought it would be fun to pick up one solely for my slowly growing collection of foreign bullion coins: I picked it up from Provident Metals for something like $5 over spot, although I just noticed they are now out of stock. It's probably hard to tell from the pictures, but the coin actually has a proof finish. The only way to photograph it without getting a reflection of my fingers and the camera was to film at an angle, but then you lose the sense that it is a proof.

Its a reverse proof type look isn't it?

Nope. The fields are definitely mirrored. As I said, I had to photograph it at an angle which makes it look a bit strange.

Here's my original picture of the reverse, clearly showing a reflection of my red camera:

Barry, don't give up on stacking Taku's just yet. When silver initially dropped to below $23 the premium on these were $3.49 over for orders of 20 or more from Provident. I ordered 20 at $26.28 each shipped at that time (with their free shipping offer). I think this is pretty reasonable considering the low mintage (350K). Keep your eye out as the premium could come back down again in the future.

Nice! I love this design, I have the 1 and 1/2 oz version from 2012 and 2013. (My 2013's just came in last week ) They switched the design.. The 2012's have a reverse proof portrait of the queen while the 2013 have the 2 figures around the crest/shield. Although the turtle design is the same on both. And actually I wouldn't consider the turtle side to be a proof or reverse proof.. It's different.. Lol, like a mix of both. Here's a pic of the 1oz 2012 reverse proof (non turtle side) and the new 2013 1/2oz (same as the ops 1oz but obviously its a half ounce and a face value of $1) alongside the 2012 1oz. I figured I'd show the 2013 1/2 oz and last years 1oz since the op already showed the 2013 1oz..

At some point I will have to get one of those myself. I currently have bullion coins from 7 different countries (not including that God awful Armenian one) and I love the turtle design.

Quote: not including that God awful Armenian one Glad to know I'm not the only one who feels that way about them! Quote: I hate paying the outrageous shipping charges Yeah, that's why I usually buy at least 10 of any bullion coin. This was an exception, though. I had no idea how recognizable the Fiji Taku is and whether I'd have trouble selling them down the line, so I decided to just bear the shipping charge and only get one.

If anyone has an extra 2013 that they would be willing let go to a fellow coin collector, please let me know

I thought the Armenian ones were pretty nice, did I not look closely enough? (the closest I've seen is an avatar-sized thumbnail...)

The Armenian Noah's Ark are very nice. Proof like with a good design.

I really like the Armenian coin but the Tako coin looks cheap to me.

I think it's a really clever design. With the bubbles and gentle waves it's like you're looking down into the water at the turtle.
