Ive been doing some reading and research on RPM's. My question is, when looking at MM's. Do split serif's "ALWAYS" mean that it is a RPMM when it can't be attributed to PMD?

The reason I ask is that I've noticed a lot of different mint marks are considered RPM even when their only real feature (at least easily visible) is a split serif.

A split serif is an indicator of an offset secondary punch. That would mean it is an RPM. The thing you have to realize is that if a split serif is all you see, it really is not worth the time trying to attribute unless there are very few known RPMS for that year. Split serifs alone usually will not be enough to be listed as a known RPM. It is just too minor. Plus their value is very minimal. Look on Coppercoins website under 1960-D. Over 150 different RPMs listed, and only about 10 of them are worth collecting.

I disagree with the only "10 worth collecting". If you think 150 are too many, Wexler has many more than that listed. I have a lot of 150, but not all of them.

The RPMs with split serifs are still RPMs.

They're all worth collecting. I've sold year long collections for many times what I pay for at the beginning of the new year. It's how I've been able to afford so many nice pieces over the years.

I'm fairly new to collecting rpms - about a year now. I can hear what both coop and seal006 are saying. I have found some split serifs that are fairly easy to attribute on coppercoins and I think are worth collecting. Some splits are very deep, but some are very minor. I also have a lot of unattributable ones that have a split serif, but is too minor I guess. It all depends on how much you want to get into this aspect of collecting. I'm having a blast and trying to attribute all I find.

Thank you all so very much for the information. This is exactly what I was needing to know but unfortunately very few sources give detailed information upon. Yes, there are sources, but I would rather read someone's interpretation. Thank you all again! This was great and very informative and answered my question to a "T"
