I've seen some amazing photos on here of your RPM's, Doubled Dies and so on. What are some of you using to get these crisp and up-close photos. I'm considering a Dino-lite microscope, but I don't want to have to shell out a couple hundred to get sub-par results. Any advice is greatly appreciated of course!!
I use a Celestron scope that cost me $60. I also use a point and shoot digital camera. There is a scope brand called Manbate I think that cost like $30. John
This is my setup: The problem with the cheaper scopes are the plastic lens they use in them. The glass ones take a lot clearer images. Cameras are important also. I use an older camera with a macro feature on it. That is keep to get better images. Lighting also can make/break an image. Edit software is a must. So it is a combination of all of these. It also helps to have 20-30 thousand images under my belt.
It is one I got off ebay a long time ago. The same design has changed changed now. But the important thing is the 3.5-35 infinite zoom. This way you can get the shot you want. Too high of a power is over kill. If you have to look at over 10X to see a variety, then it is too minor. At 35X I can get full image shots of 1-10 cent shots. The zoom is real nice because they work good to show markers better. I bought a cheap scope to use till I got what I wanted. The images on the cheap scopes always look pink and like you've got a piece of cello blocking the clarity. Save your $10 bills till you can get the right one. I've had mine since 2000. They are a better thing you don't have to update to later on.
I use a USB scobe.VEHO DISCOVERY VMS-001.Just put the coin underneath the scope and look at it on your PC screen.I t also photographs the coin very good. All my pics I posted on here were made with that scope. It sure makes it a lot easier on my eyes.
