This is one from our very own FVRIVS RVFVS. He waived the charge because it had BD - and boy did it have BD. All over the place, beneath the surface of the coin, under the strange rust stuff.
During treament, bits fell off and revealed subsurface BD reaching into the coin. So, to try and recover the sestertius, I used distilled water soaks (changing the water every 2 days) and took away any green buildups whenever I saw them. Heavy handed cleaning broke chips of the coin off where BD had penetrated the patina.
The BD dug a shelf into the coin - very difficult to clean under to get at the BD. And what do you know, the shelf is infested with BD. Off it went. The picture shows some of it still on, but I didnt want to risk it and there was BD in there, so it was for the best. One final go over with a fresh pin and a shoot first attitude should do it.
Heres pictures of it, BD free:

Now to get the red stuff off. Under it is a nice electric blue tone. But before that, its got a final week of BD treatment for safety. Pity the reverse is so corroded and pitted - oh well, its a reverse I like and theres some alright detail coming out in hand.
