I have read about people finding red pennies and 2p coins and I cant seem to find any concrete info , can someone please enlighten me on this coin phenomenon ?

not sure I understand the question but I might I hope this helps. a red cent is what copper collectors refer to a cent that has not been circulated so much that it turns brown its not a real red like a firetruck just a copper cent that is bu example a 1909 Lincoln Cent can be mint state but brown in color or some nice copper color remains then it is red brown if no brown at all is on it then it is ms-red

Yeah, its just an uncirculated penny. They do go orange if you leave them a while but as far as I know, theres no common red colouring.

interesting stuff, I think I have seen a few "in the wild" mostly 1996 pennies ....

DaytR - I see a lot of uncirculated 1996 1p and 2p coins around. Even when I'm in other parts of the country I see them. Perhaps the mint found a huge sack of them behind a box in the cellar?

Yeah, there is quite lot of those shiny `96 coins floating about, its fascinating ! I also saw a shiny red 1993 2p a few weeks back .....
