Any company going through the effort to mint a gold coin would have come up with a better design and hired a better engraver to do the dies. Report this Post to the Staff

A quick search revealed one of these crudely struck medals sold at auction on 31 October 2011 for $35 (there were five bidders). Gold at the time was $1,720 per ounce. It is 10K gold (not 24K) so calling it solid gold is a bit of a fib - it is only 41.7% gold by weight. The medal was issued by American Coin Company out of California during the bicentennial year. A 10K gold medal weighing 1.6 grams at today's gold spot close of $1,470.70 per ounce has a precious metal content value of $31.66. Collecting history one coin or medal at a time! (c) commems.
