Recently I found some coins. The best places are:
1. On top of and below vending machines.
2. in front of store counters on the floor like starbucks.
3. In any busy city, I work in NY City, on the streets.
4. when someone drops coins they often leave some behind like pennies especially, nickesl and dimes. They do this right in front of me so I listen for the ping pang of dropping coins when I'm in line for my coffee!
Any coin story finds you guys want to share please share them!
I with I had a metal detector and time to search the beach but I don't.

I would find them on the floor where I worked before re-entering the aerospace industry. The heathens I worked with had just enough sense to keep from going to the bathroom in their pants and would literally throw nickels and cents at each other throughout the course of any given day. I must say that the coolant we used in our lathes and horizontal drills would shine even the brownest of Lincolns.

Just once, I found a Susan B. Anthony dollar in a train station automated ticket machine. That was my best find so far.

I`v done all that stuff, you must be doing as well as I am. At school people throw coins everywhere, in the locker rooms, in the center court, in the halls, outside of the school, and in classrooms. I find coins everyday for that reason. Also at malls I walk through the whole food court and find a good amount of coins too.

Parking lots are good. Men are digging out their keys and coins get caught up in the keys. I always shake my keys before taking them out of the pocket.

The smartest ones use coin purses. Keys won't grab coins from one of those.

Couch cushions. Hate visits to the doctor or dentist, but I usually walk away with a couple of coins.

Yeah, that's a good one BamaBlue. I always check my couch at home but never really thought about checking those couches you mentioned. I'll have to try that.

@SaintRidley. You're right. I used to have one of those heavy plastic squeeze-to-open type change thing and liked it. Haven't seen then around anymore.
@ BamaBlue I'm not too sure about fishing around in strange couches. LOL. My dr & dentist all have hard, uncomfortable chairs anyway.

I always check parking meter kiosks (the central parking-lot controllers that print tickets, not individual meters), both the return slot and the ground nearby. They combine a perfect storm of circumstances that would cause someone to lose a coin:
1. People commute in the morning, when they're tired and angry. This is the time when you're most likely to not care enough to pick up a dropped quarter. 2. A confusing interface, some might not even notice the return slot and assume it ate their money. 3. Often, there are piles of road gravel or snow at the base of the machine that would hide a dropped coin.
I found a toonie on my first try doing this. I haven't done any dedicated searching yet, but you could probably find a lot with patience (you'd find more in a country with a circulating dollar coin :P).
