I am trying to figure out the name of this type of error, if it is an error, because I am trying to find as many as I can on the error checklist (error-ref.com). It looks similar to a rim die break/cud but that isn't what it is. The rim comes around normally and then it has a dramatic step down. Then for a short distance, the flatter part of the rim has a shallow valley that gradually converges into a normal rim again. Thanks for the help guys and gals.

Looks like PMD to me. A rim nick. Cuds are breaks in the die, and result in a raised surface on the coin - not a depression. Thanks for sharing, jay.
