I've just decided that my coin collection will focus mainly on nickels and five cent pieces and the ever so Graceful Walking Liberty 50 cent pieces. I will also collect coins that catch my eye and are interesting.

I will probably give other coins as gifts to friends and family that I know would enjoy the them. Other coins I will probably trade, sell, auction, give away and put in contests on this forum in order to gather funds for my collection.

I haven't gotten the Cherry Book yet. Can anyone recommend excellent books on collecting nickels and walkers?

My wife and I recently filled two Jefferson nickels Dansco Albums. We have a few Jeffersons left over. Once you start filling your album, let us know which ones you still need, and if we have them, we'll be glad to send them to you.

Yes Jim. All types of nickels and 5 cent pieces.

Gary, I'll keep that in mind. Thank you.

Bruce 1947, because of your avatar I'm going to assume you collect nickels. Can you recommend a good site for nickels and also a good book?
I'm interested on reading history of this coin and walkers, and of course on collecting these and their varieties with lots of pics.

I had no idea I was going to be offered so much help. Thanks a bunch everyone!! I am honestly touched by everyones's help and generousity.

Thank you 50 cents. I'll check them out at the library first.

Any recommended books and readings for nickles? Anyone?

Okay. I've decided to narrow down my nickel collection to pre 65. I have a bunch of those already that have been thrown together in a box. I will be sorting through those and trying to organize them and them getting some albums.
I have a couple nice walkers and adding to that collection. So right now it's about organizing. Any tips would be most welcome.

Thingee.
Here are some of the reference books I use on the Jefferson nickels.
1. THE Jefferson nickel ANALYST by BERNARD NAGENGAST
2.JEFFERSON NICKEL DOUBLED DIE VARIETIES by JOHN WEXLER
3. A GUIDE BOOK OF BUFFALO AND Jefferson nickels by DAVID BOWERS
in my opinion the first one to have is the Jefferson nickel analyst I will send you more info latter when I have more time.

Bruce.

P.S Here is something you might like to read http://www.shiawasseehistory.com/schlag.html

Bruce 1947, that is a very interesting site. Very educational. The name of Felix Shlag has been imprinted in my brain. His biography is a very interesting one.

Do you know what happened to that first nickel after the death of Felix Shlag and his wife?
Where is it now?

Thank you for providing this new student with her first step into the world of the 5 cent piece!

Jenn
