Hi I have a GEORGIVS V 1920 British half penny with the letter V stamped into it. I also came across a 1908 EDWARDVS VII British one penny coin but this one has the number 7 stamped into it. I can't seem to find anything at all about these markings on the internet so I thought it best to ask some people who know about this kind of thing. If anyone could help that would be great.

Just PMD done by someone who has access to Letters and Numbers stamps. I saw a full (new) set for sale recently for about AU$40.

Hi Harry. As your collecting grows you will see a lot of this type of thing, old coinage with later marks/stamps etc. A lot of the time certain marketing 'firms' had a need to supply types of tokens and it was basically cheaper to bang some letters onto old pennies than to have a die made or get some cast, generally speaking though, it is mainly down to people just stamping them for either fun or practice for stamping something else.
