This was issued December 1917 in Desvres, Pas de Calais, France.

Can anyone fully translate the initials for me?

B%$£"r!!
My old eyes read the 2 as an E, must be time to clean the screen. I'd guessed most of the rest, but it's odd to think of a sports day amid the carnage of trench warfare.

Thank you Pertinax

Keeping the men occupied during a rest period is a great way to keep them out of trouble.

Having a sports day is a great way to raise morale and to divert the men's attention from the horrors they've seen/the atrocities of war.

I have WW1 British army prize medals from India, Egypt, and the Western Front.

They're a great bit of family/social history as well.

What a lovely design !

Though the figure in the foreground looks a bit crude.

It's not clear to me whether he's praying or sleeping.

I'd take a guess and say he's praying. Notice the rising sun on the left?

Try looking at http://www.awm.gov.au/research/info.../served_ww1/ .

Ancestry might have records.

Australia has a pretty good facility.

I just put my Father's and Brother's full names in here, and got some Service Details data for both.

How can you not love this place? Ask a question, go to bed, and when you wake up; Voila! The good folk of CCF have done most of the work for you.
Many thanks Pertinax, Nancy and r9453. This site rocks.
