Can anyone tell me what finish these coins have?
The three I have, cycling & canoeing ( Aluminium-Bronze)
& Rowing (Brass) all have the same mirror-like golden appearance.

Did some third party hoon gold plate any of these, in the way that Westminster Mint b%%%%r up perfectly good coins in the UK?

Photos don't show the full horror but here's my best shot.

From memory different coins in the set have different finishes. They are meant to be pretty shiny.

Yeh they are meant to look quite different to the 1988 $5. Parts of the obverse die are selectively shiny. There were several different obverse dies used amongst the set from memory. I sold my full set about a year ago for face value.

The 1998 Parliament $5 is also Alu-Bronze and the Unc that I have bears no resemblance to its later cousins in terms of finish, shine, gleam or whatever. Which is why I suspected gold plating. Trouble being that my photographic skills are somewhere south of zero so it's hard to illustrate just what I mean. You could use these things as a shaving mirror.
