I've been thinking about buying this coin for months, but can't find any information on it:

http://cgi.ebay.com/UGANDA-200-SHIL...RE_W0QQitemZ280115003960QQihZ018QQcategoryZ546QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem

It isn't in the most current SCWC. In fact, I can't find any information to confirm the coin actually exists. any help would be appreciated.

Very odd. Never actually seen FAO on the actual coin. I'll do some diggin and see what I can find. The 1998 version is only 2 UNC so I doubt this coin is worth the 12.50 they are charging especially since its a "FAO"

Nothing on NumisMaster, in either the normal or unusual catalogue searches.

However, the silver 5000 shillings dated the same year (1995) with a similar design (only a bunch of bananas replaces the fish) is there, in the normal listings: KM#128. It's not listed in the 2006 Krause, either.

This coin was issued in 1995 as part of the 50th anniversary celebrations of The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United nations (FAO).

The FAO logo is displayed under the fish.

The 5000 shilling silver commemorative coin was also issued as part of the same celebration.

There were 53 coins issued from 36 countries quite a number of which did not get into Krause for some reason.

A full list can be seen here http://fao-coins.info/fao-3.html . Although it is not an official FAO site it has a good representation of FAO coins issued in sets.

Angielczyk - thanks for the info and the link. I found some more coins I want to add to my fish-themed collection.

Although this coin does not appear in Krause it does appear in the German Catalogue Welt Munzkatalog by Gunter and Gerhard Schon.

The price for the 200 shilling coin is quoted at €12.00 and the 5000 shilling one at €50.00.

KM 68 is actually a different coin. A non FAO issue with a different fish.
