I am not a coin collector but whilst renovating a house I came across a coin bearing Edwards head and a ship on the other side. It was dated 1937. The house is about that age and I found it under a door threshold. Most likely dropped by the workman at the time. When I told my father he said he thought it must be unusual because he never became king. Therefore he concluded it must have some value. I did a google search but came up with not a lot Can any of you guys advise. Of course I have to find where I put it in the house nowðŸ˜ž Thanks guys Report this Post to the Staff

The luck in this case would be yours if it is an Eddie halfpenny. And whatever you do, don't clean it. Report this Post to the Staff
chippie New Member United Kingdom 2 Posts	Posted 05/14/2013 5:02 pm Thanks for the replies guys. I will go and find it tomorrow as the job is a long way from where I live. Don't worry I will do as you say and not clean it. I take it there is the possibility that it is not just any average halfpenny as long as it is what I remember it as when I told dad. My dad spoke to me later and said " you must be mistaken son, it must have been king George". I'm assuming king George half pennies are a lot more common. Very interesting by the way about the putting of coins under thresholds. I am a carpenter, maybe I should start doing the same. Instead of a comedic remarks written on the reverse side of things for future chippies to find. Regardless of the value of the coins put under thresholds and such like, I wonder what the trades person who put the coin there would be thinking if they could see you find the coin. I would like to think that the remarks I put would raise a smile on what may be a horrible day up to that point. Report this Post to the Staff

A grand total of seven "pattern" Edward VIII 1937 halfpennies were made, but none of them were ever found in circulation; they are all accounted for in museums and collections.
