Hi,

I guess this will be an easy one, and please excuse my ignorance, but I found a necklace which has coin in it.

I wondered if anyone knew what it was, I've attached a photo, and can tell you that its about 17mm across.

It seems to be in really good condition, except for being mounted in the necklace.

Thanks
Nick

At 17mm it will be either a Victorian Silver 3 or 4 pence, the denomination and date should be on the other side.

Thanks Rooneydog.

I'll see if you can remove it without damaging!

Cheers

Sorry, but this is not an actual coin of Queen Victoria. The denticles around the rim are wrong for any coin of that period and the portrait is quite the wrong shape; compare it with this threepence, for example. I presume what you have is a coin-like medal, specifically made for being put into jewellery. It probably does not date from the time of Queen Victoria, either.

I would not recommend trying to remove it; all you'll end up with is two pieces of broken jewellery.

Besides it being a fake fantasy coin, the bezel and box chain are quite nice.
