Hey, Has anyone here bought coins lots from ebay id: californiacoolchristians or californiacoolcoins4u They say their lots can have silver or gold and the feedback looks good for their coin lots. They use stock photos though. I like ancient_treasures , they have actual pics and coins show detail. Joe

All lies. Gold is never found in uncleaned lots. If its ever been found - its been put there and is probably a small shard. You cannot find gold in uncleaned lots.
Silver is another story. I've found silver in an uncleaned lot because it tarnishes black and dirt clings onto it - its sometimes looked over - especially denarii. Siliqua are far too obvious and fragile - they are usually spotted. Mine was a cut denarius.
Never buy from a stock photo - its something to hide. My first coins came from cAc Uncleaned coins - impeccable service, good coins but they have a stock photo. They say golds been found but it hasnt - also lies. But they make up for it with their coins. A few duds in the 30 coins I got from them but a lot of keepers - I asked for a front facing bust, they totally threw one in. Their greek coins were also nice!

I don't really trust any seller that says there is a chance for gold in the lot. Gold, to my knowledge, doesn't really stick to dirt the same way bronze does and sticks out if it were found by the detectorist. Silver is more likely but still very unlikely.
Like the one review I read said "if you do find gold in an uncleaned lot and it actually tests to be the element gold then go buy a lottery ticket."

hmmmmmmm 2 red flags for me....i would avoid.
advertising that there could be silver in a lot they have searched through, who they got it form has searched through, and someone else has probably already searched through, is HIGHLY unlikely and advertising that it is possible dishonest in my opinion. FLAG
stock photos...FLAG
how big of a coin lot are you looking for JC?

Just a small lot of 10 coins. My cash is running thin. Maybe 20 coins.

I think i'll stick with ancient_treasures , as noted they have actual pics and don't claim to have any gold or silver just what is shown.

jc, go to ebay, search for "10 uncleaned coins" and you'll see a few lots worth having (some ending today) IMHO.

yeah saw some good pics. Mostly Constantine though at lot size of 10. Bigger lots showed better coins. I checked out CAC. Maybe there coins are good but I should definitely stick to real pics.

I sell lots of uncleaned coins, been on a lull though for a little while for the end of the semester. I get bulk lots (thousands) of coins from the middle east. I just got a small consignment of about 700 coins which had a broken Abbassid dirhem in it, and have found silver in other lots, typically Mamluk fractional dirhems. Gold, never. I do give out silver bonus coins for $50 purchases, usually an Akce or something similar. I can do some reasonably priced small lots if you're interested. PM me for details.

I haven't bought any uncleaned lots in a very long time but when I did I stayed away from any seller that said anything about gold being found. I have found plenty of silver which were overlooked when the lots were picked through. I've wanted to find a direct source for large lots from Europe but never was able to locate one.

Yeah I just got a lot from Great American Coin co and there was only one Constantine $5 dollar keeper. Very sad. I'll be more careful next time.
