Ive decided to post some pictures of my nicest coins when its quiet. So heres part I!

Constantine II, Trier mint, Rated R3 (Very Rare).
This is a valuable coin in a very high grade. This was tricky to clean. I've taken every granule of dirt off to give it a natural shine - no wax or anything here. Reverse is beata tranqvillitas. Stunning condition for something buried in the UK all this time.

This is one of the only issues ever with the emperor wearing consular robes. And, an eagle tipped sceptre? nice.

I paid (drumroll please) 40ishP for this coin when you take into account all purchases at that time. What do you guys think its worth? Compare it to this one at Vcoins for £55.

Really nice cleaning job

If you can add the find location (ish) this will give some provenance and add interest, as well as for records.

Thanks for the kind words...cleaning coins like this is tricky stuff. Cleaning the last crud out of the fields is dangerous business. Requires a sharp pin and a steady hand.

Masis - I asked the guy about the better coins from that lot and this one is from a farm near Swindon in Wiltshire. I should write that down on the coin's holder - good thing to keep with the coin. The finder was 'Dave' - hes just started a new business venture on ebay selling coins. I went for a lot but hes got a bigger client base now so its pricier (booo!)

"Requires a sharp pin and a steady hand."

I have a diabetic dog and have just discovered a use for his used syringes! Only used on grotty coins!

I try not to use any metal other than the brass brush. For some selective 'rubbing' I found that bamboo barbecue skewers make excellent probes. Firmer than a toothpick and almost as cheap.
