We have a number of new collectors here that may not be aware of vast reference material available about our hobby. I would like to use this thread so that we can make a list of what is available. Here are two free sources that can be downloaded from the web: ERIC It is a free downloaded from Dirty Old Books.com This is the first book that Rasiel Suarez put out on Roman coins. Helvetica: http://www.catbikes.ch/coinstuff/coins-ric.htmThis is a downloadable data base that covers portions of RIC and is a must. This is all free and a good start for the new collector. Please feel free to add to this list.

Invaluable for reverses you cant recognise on later bronzes: http://www.tesorillo.com/aes/home.htmSimply click through until you find a matching design. Also has obverse, reverses by emperor and an explanation of jargon.
And I personally dont navigate through the site but heres Wildwinds: http://www.wildwinds.com/Has lists from RIC of coin types which oyu can search through - includes pictures and often sale prices. Got Byzantine, Greek, roman and english hammered coins. If you know the emperor and wish to pin down the ID, then go to the emperors list and drag through all the mints. I use this in conjunction with Tesorillo.
Heres another tool for identifying with: http://www.wildwinds.com/coins/findstr.htmlWildwinds partial legend search allows you to search through coins with any part of the legend. So if only 'ALERIVS P' is readable, plug it in and out comes a result. Very helpful when I was starting out.

I bought all 10 RIC volumes for $20 dollars on DVD in PDF format from a Seller on Bonanza.com. Not sure if he has more but worth a look.

I hope these websites are useful I have no others to add for the moment. Please jump in and add anything that you feel would be useful in helping our fellow ancient coin collectors.
