Hi,
I have noticed that my mint rep has placed orders on my behalf without my consent and sometimes, my knowledge. This has happened more than once. The first time he called me to introduce himself, he called me to ask if I wanted to order the new coins. Since I was at work, I didn't get to hear his voice mail until later. After that, I received another call saying that he placed an order for two coin sets for me because he didn't want me to miss out. I was a little ticked off this first time because he had just introduced himself and was ordering things for me even though I didn't get a chance to get back to him about whether or not I wanted it. I didn't complain since I wanted those ones. However, I was just checking my recent orders online. I noticed an order placed on May 2nd that I never placed. It didn't have "WEB" in front of it so I knew it had to be through my rep. I sent him an email to ask about why this was showing up in my account when I never ordered it. He said he ordered it for me because he didn't want me to miss out, but he forgot to tell me that he ordered it for me. So...if I hadn't checked recently, I could have gotten this coin in the mail and then had to go through the hassle of returning a coin I never ordered and waiting for my money to be refunded back onto my credit card. I just find this kind of service a bit...mind-boggling and out of line for a service rep to just assume I want things and order things for me without letting me know.

Sounds overzealous, for sure. Might be different if you had a history with a rep who was intimately familiar with what you liked. At the very least, he/she should be informing you immediately that an order had been placed so you could cancel, thus avoiding unwanted material, to say nothing of the time you need to spend in getting it returned!

Who is your rep. My Guy Chris never does anything like that?

I would say file a complaint and request to switch to a different rep.
Who knows if this rep is using one customer's account to "hold" coins before he/she could find another customers, or if this tactics would boost their sales figures. This is totally wrong, what if the CC is in foreign currency and there is exchange rate differences? What if we have our credit limit set aside for other important purchases.

I'd complain to his manager, he's charging your credit card without your knowledge, that's illegal.

I've never had that happen either. I do know they work on commissions, but forcing a sale without your authorization I'm sure would be a big "No No" for mint reps.

You let it happen the first time and it worked out maybe he thought he was doing you a favor by doing it again

Each rep caters to more than 450 customers. So the following happens:
o Treatment for customers will vary. There are some that will be on his most favored list.
o Sometimes he will order for you, just like your commodities broker and then notify you.
My rep does that for me. However, that is for the glass butterfly and he is afriad that I would miss out. That was very nice of him.

I had a similar experience with my rep, but it was quickly resolved when I explained that I did not wish to have orders made on my behalf without my prior knowledge.
The "surprise" order of which I was informed via email was quickly cancelled by my rep. No harm was done.
If you have been assigned a rep, it would be best let he or she know how you may best be served.

My rep has never reserved or charged anything without my consent. I recently placed an order for 5 x $100 for $100 coins. My rep asked me if I wanted 10. I told my rep I would get back later.

ok. thanks for everyone's input. I asked him to cancel the current order he placed earlier today, but I am definitely going to ask him to not order on my behalf in the future.

yea, just let him know not to do that in the future. If he does it again, tell him "I'll kick your buttock to the moon, then to Jupiter next if you repeat again."

Chris is the rep I just got a few weeks ago. He seems like a outstanding fellow. We had a nice conversation to discuss what kinds of coins I like and did not pressure me to order any coins. He said he has a lot of clients already but was asked by the Mint to take on a few more. I guess I was lucky to get him because other coin collectors think highly of him too.

Depenfs on motivations. If he's truly in touch with what you like, it makes sense. If it's to boost sales...not so much.
