Recently my wife's mother died. This had belonged to my wife's maternal grandfather. There is a 1944 Florin at the apex. One side says USN. MILNE. BAY. The other side says NEW. GUINEA.

The accounts that I have read of the Battle of Milne Bay does not identify any US forces involved, but her father may have been in a Construction Battalion (the SeaBees).

A lot of US forces were stationed in northern Australia during the war. Is there a little letter above the date? Some 1944 florins were produced in the US because there was a shortage of coinage due to the huge influx of US servicemen.
